Defence Workshop - Fishing Rod Holder
Thursday 20th March 2025
Service Description
Funded by the Australian Government, Family Support Funding Program for Defence Members and Family Support. The Empowering Military Families in The Community Program is a set of hands-on practical woodworking and general life skills workshops for current serving defence members (who have recently transitioned to Townsville), their immediate family and supports. The sessions will allow members of the defence community to utilise the base level of services of Life Skills Queensland at no charge. The workshops will run twice a month on a Thursday afternoon, from October 2024 to June 2025. Families are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and have a go at learning new skills. The workshops are based at our Townsville workshop and are designed to be fun and engaging while open to adults and children aged 8 and above, as well as levels of experience. The workshop encourages families to try something new and build something meaningful for each individual. Whether building a lap table, creating art with resin, or learning how to fix a leaking tap. The program is designed to enhance the capacity of military families and communities to foster resilience and effectively manage the challenges associated with the military lifestyle. This workshop is an interactive, fun and hands-on workshop with no experience required. You will be using real tools in a real workshop, based here in Townsville. If booking for a child, please note that they are parent accompanied workshop, where a parent/guardian is required to stay for the duration of the workshop. You never know, you may even learn a few skills yourself! Woodworking is an excellent way to increase your co-ordination, enhance problem solving skills, spatial awareness and unleash creative ability. Each project is customisable with designated designs from the laser etcher. Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity.
