FAQs

Do you work with NDIS participants?

 

Yes. Life Skills Queensland supports NDIS participants through practical, workshop based mentoring, Core Supports, and capacity building programs.

 

What types of NDIS participants do you support?

 

Life Skills Queensland currently supports: • Plan Managed participants only • Self Managed participants only.

 

We do not currently support NDIA Managed participants.

 

Can I change from NDIA Managed to Plan Managed or Self Managed?

 

Yes. Participants can contact: • The NDIA • Their Local Area Coordinator (LAC) • Support Coordinator • NDIS Planner to discuss changing management arrangements.

 

Do you provide Support Coordination? No. Life Skills Queensland does not currently provide Support Coordination services.

 

What is a Workshop Tour? A Workshop Tour is a free introduction to our workshop and services. It allows participants, families, carers, and support teams to: • Meet our staff • Explore the workshop • Discuss goals and interests • Understand how sessions work • Determine if the environment is a suitable fit

 

How long does a Workshop Tour take? Generally between 15–25 minutes. Is there a cost for a Workshop Tour? No. Workshop Tours are free.

 

What happens during a Workshop Tour? Tours may include: • Workshop walkthrough • Viewing projects and equipment • Introduction to mentors and staff • Discussion around goals and supports • Information about onboarding and availability • Meeting Charlie the workshop dog if onsite

 

When are Workshop Tours available? Generally: • Monday to Friday at 10:00am • Monday to Thursday at 3:30pm Subject to availability.

 

What happens after a Workshop Tour? Following the tour, participants may proceed through onboarding which can include: • Client Onboarding Form to be completed • Service Agreement drafting, signing, and distribution • Session allocation • Participant commencement

 

How long does onboarding take? On average, onboarding generally takes approximately 2 weeks, however this may vary depending on: • How quickly documentation is returned • Session availability • Support requirements • Staffing capacity

 

Do you have waitlists? Yes. Some days and session times may have waitlists depending on demand.

 

Do I need a Service Agreement? Yes. Signed Service Agreements are required for all NDIS participants prior to commencing services.

 

Can parents, carers or support workers attend? Yes. Parents, carers, support workers, and support staff are welcome to attend where appropriate. Support persons may also come from external providers or different organisations where required to support the participant’s needs, onboarding, transition, or ongoing participation.

 

Do participants need prior workshop experience? No experience is required. Activities and supports are tailored to individual interests, goals, abilities, and support needs.

 

What activities do participants do? Activities may include: • Woodworking • Resin projects • Laser engraving • CNC projects • 3D printing • Practical tool skills • Creative projects • Mentoring • Social and community participation • Capacity building activities

 

What can I make? We currently have more than 300 projects participants can choose from. Participants may also have the opportunity to: • Customise projects • Suggest their own ideas • Work toward larger long term projects • Develop practical life and workshop skills through project based learning

 

Do you plan the projects? Yes. A Project Scope Sheet is generally completed for every participant project. This assists with: • Project planning • Material preparation • Participant goals • Skill development tracking • Workshop organisation and safety

 

What do I need to bring to sessions? Participants are generally encouraged to bring: • Enclosed shoes • Water bottle • Reading glasses if required Participants should also wear suitable comfortable clothing for a workshop environment.

 

Can I wear open footwear? No. Open footwear is not permitted within the workshop.

 

Are Crocs allowed? No. We may let you get away with it once, however enclosed shoes are required moving forward.

 

Do I need to wear shoes if I use a wheelchair? Yes. Enclosed footwear is still required for all participants, including wheelchair users.

 

Are runners allowed? Yes. Runners are completely fine.

 

Are boots recommended? Yes. Boots are recommended if you have them, however enclosed runners are also acceptable.

 

Do support workers and support staff also require enclosed shoes? Yes. All persons entering workshop areas, including support workers, carers, parents, and visitors, are required to wear enclosed footwear unless attending a Workshop Tour only.

 

How early should I arrive before my session? Generally around 5 minutes before your scheduled session time.

 

Do I need to clean up after activities? Yes. Working with tools also includes learning responsibility, organisation, and workshop clean up skills.

 

Do you work with participants with higher support needs? Support suitability is assessed during onboarding to ensure the environment is appropriate and safe for all participants and staff.

 

Do you provide transport? Generally no. However, transport requirements can be discussed with staff during the Workshop Tour and onboarding process.

 

How are invoices processed? Billing and invoicing are generally completed following the participant’s session. Invoices are generally: • Sent to Plan Managers • Sent directly to Self Managed participants/families

 

Are prices aligned with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements? Where applicable, services are generally aligned with current NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.

 

Can prices change? Yes. Prices may change during the Service Agreement period with written notice. What happens if a participant misses a session? Cancellation and non attendance policies are outlined within the Service Agreement. Fees may apply depending on notice provided.

 

Do you provide Progress Reports? Yes. Life Skills Queensland can provide Progress Reports where requested or required.

 

Are Progress Reports free? No. Progress Reports are generally charged in accordance with the current NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.

 

Can services be paused or cancelled? Yes. Service changes, pauses, or cessation of services are managed in accordance with the Service Agreement.

 

Are staff screened? Relevant staff maintain applicable: • Blue Cards • NDIS Worker Screening/Yellow Cards • Police Checks • Workplace training and inductions

 

Is the workshop supervised? Yes. Sessions are supervised by staff and mentors with workshop safety systems in place.

 

Is the workshop environment suitable for everyone? The workshop is an active shared environment. Suitability is assessed during onboarding to ensure participant and staff safety.

Are food and drinks allowed in the workshop? Water bottles are encouraged. Food and drink requirements may vary depending on the activity area and equipment being used.

 

What happens if I damage something accidentally? We understand participants are learning new skills. Staff supervise activities and support participants in using equipment safely and appropriately.
