SF School Holiday Workshop - Lap Table
Workshops for the Community Ages 8 and over
Service Description
Woodwork Activities for Kids aged 8+ As part of funding received from The Smith Family, we proudly offer workshops to people in the community who meet one of the following criteria: • families with low incomes • young-parent families • jobless families • sole-parent families • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families • families from culturally and linguistically diverse communities • families with a parent (or child) who has a disability • families experiencing problems with housing, domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health or child protection. And reside in one of the following suburbs: • Aitkenvale • Currajong • Gulliver • Garbutt • Heatley • Vincent • West End This session starts with a small safety module, followed by a hands-on practical learning experience where the kids actively participate in building a Lap Table. The workshop covers three learning methodologies including instructions, pictures and demonstrations. They will encounter a range of activities and skills, such as measuring, marking, hammering, drilling, screwing and sawing. Parents are required to stay for the duration of the workshop, and we highly recommended one child per parent, if possible. You never know, you may even learn a few skills yourself! Enclosed shoes are a must. This workshop will run for approximately 2 hours. The workshop duration varies slightly, due to age and experience of the participants as well as the child to parent ratio. Woodworking is an excellent way to increase your child's co-ordination, enhance problem solving skills, spatial awareness and unleash their creative ability. Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity for your kids.
